Medford, Oregon- The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) has announced a reduction in fire danger levels across Jackson and Josephine counties due to recent cooler weather and rainfall. As of 9:00 a.m. today, the public fire danger level has been downgraded to “low” (green), and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) has been reduced to Level I on lands protected by the ODF Southwest Oregon District.
Despite the decrease in fire risk, some restrictions will remain in place. Public fire prevention measures include a continued ban on debris burning and the use of burn barrels. Fireworks are prohibited within 1/8 of a mile of ODF-protected land, and the use of exploding targets, tracer ammunition, or any bullets containing pyrotechnic charges remains forbidden. Smoking while traveling is only permitted in enclosed vehicles on improved roads, in boats, or in designated locations.
Electric fence controllers are required to meet safety standards set by nationally recognized testing agencies or be certified by the Department of Consumer and Business Services. They must also be installed and operated according to manufacturer instructions to ensure fire safety.
Under IFPL I, industrial fire prevention measures remain in effect. A firewatch is mandatory at this level and higher unless a specific waiver is granted.
