Two-Day Paving Project to Begin in Downtown Ashland

Ashland, Oregon- A two-day pavement improvement project will take place on Oregon 99 through downtown Ashland, starting Monday, September 30. The project, aimed at enhancing road conditions, will involve daytime lane closures and temporary parking restrictions along a two-mile stretch of road.

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the City of Ashland are overseeing the project. Crews will work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with operations beginning in the southbound lanes of Oregon 99 on North Main Street, starting at Maple Street and continuing to the intersection with Third Street. The northbound lanes, along Lithia Way, will be addressed the following day, Tuesday, October 1, starting at Third Street and continuing to Maple Street.

Travelers should expect single-lane closures in the active work zones, which could cause brief delays. In addition, several downtown parking spaces will be closed temporarily during paving operations, but they will be clearly marked the day before the closure.

The construction will not impact access to Asante Ashland Community Hospital, although minor traffic congestion is anticipated.

The project will use a grind and inlay method, which involves removing the top layer of worn asphalt and replacing it with new material. This process is considered more extensive than other maintenance methods, such as chip sealing.

The work schedule may be adjusted depending on weather conditions.
