Linn County, Oregon- Oregon State Police (OSP) made a significant drug seizure this week, confiscating over 100 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and 11 pounds of suspected fentanyl during a traffic stop on Interstate 5.
The incident occurred on August 26, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., when an OSP K-9 unit stopped a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling northbound near milepost 223 in Linn County. During the routine stop, the OSP trooper noticed indicators of potential criminal activity, prompting the deployment of a drug detection K-9.
The K-9 alerted officers to the likely presence of illegal substances inside the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed 104.3 pounds of crystal methamphetamine on the back seat and 11 pounds (5 kilograms) of suspected fentanyl concealed under the back seat.
The vehicle’s occupants, identified as Carlos Antonio Zuniga Diaz, 40, and Sugey Padilla Sanchez, 40, both of North Las Vegas, Nevada, were arrested. They face charges of possession and delivery of methamphetamine and fentanyl. Both suspects were taken into custody and lodged at the Linn County Jail.
Authorities believe the seized drugs were en route to the Seattle area. The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement agencies work to determine the full scope of the drug trafficking operation.
