3-Alarm Fire in Grants Pass Summons Resources from Jackson County to Assist

Grants Pass, Oregon— At approximately 6:20 PM, Grants Pass Fire responded to a structure fire reported in the 1200 block of SW Jordan St. The initial unit arrived within five minutes, discovering a wind-driven blaze fully engulfing a structure, rapidly spreading to a second building and threatening nearby properties.

Due to the severity and rapid spread of the fire, a third alarm was called, summoning additional resources from Jackson and Josephine Counties. Eleven fire engines, staffed by over thirty firefighters, battled the fierce flames, ultimately bringing the fire under control in just over an hour.

Grants Pass Police provided essential support by managing road closures and patrolling the area for spotfires. Their vigilance led to the detection and extinguishment of several spotfires, preventing further damage.

Despite the prompt and coordinated response, the fire resulted in significant losses. A shop was destroyed, several outbuildings were consumed, and a home sustained heavy damage. American Medical Response evaluated two firefighters for heat exposure on the scene; fortunately, neither required hospital transport.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office is set to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.

This incident underscores the effectiveness of the collaborative efforts among Rogue Valley emergency services. Agencies assisting in this operation included Grants Pass Police, Grants Pass Fire Dispatch, Rural Metro Fire Department Josephine County, Jackson County Fire District 1, Illinois Valley Fire Department, Evans Valley Fire District, Applegate Fire District, Rogue Valley Chaplains, American Medical Response Josephine County, Oregon State Fire Marshal, and Josephine County Emergency Management.

A Grants Pass Fire spokesperson commented, “This fire is a prime example of our outstanding partnership with Rogue Valley fire departments and emergency services. Our coordinated efforts were crucial in containing this rapidly spreading blaze and protecting our community.”

As the investigation continues, local authorities urge residents to remain aware and report any suspicious activities or potential fire hazards.
