Medford to Appoint New City Manager August 1st

Medford, Oregon- The City of Medford is poised to welcome a new era of leadership with the appointment of Robert Field as its new City Manager. On August 1, the City Council will take formal action to confirm Field’s selection and adopt his contract, with his official start date projected for mid-September.

The City of Medford reports that Mr. Field brings an impressive portfolio of over thirty years of experience in both local government and the private sector. His most recent role was as the City Manager for San Bernardino, California, where he demonstrated significant expertise in municipal management and economic development.

Throughout his career, Field has held several notable positions, including Assistant County Executive Officer for Riverside County’s Economic Development Agency and Director of Facilities Management for Riverside County. His diverse experience also spans various leadership roles within the Riverside County Economic Development Agency, underscoring his comprehensive understanding of capital project planning, community engagement, and complex agreement negotiations.

Educationally, Field is well-equipped for his new role. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of California, Riverside, and a Master of Arts in Leadership and Organizational Studies from California Baptist University.

City Council President Tim D’Alessandro expressed strong support for Field’s appointment, highlighting his extensive experience and accomplishments. “Robert Field’s vast experience and proven track record in municipal management and economic development make him an ideal fit for Medford. Field’s appointment follows the retirement of Brian Sjothun, who has devoted over two decades of service to Medford. Sjothun’s tenure has been marked by significant advancements and dedicated leadership, setting a high standard for his successor.
