Near Eagle Point, Oregon- Containment on the Salt Creek Fire has increased to 7% as firefighters made significant progress overnight. Mop-up operations on the west side of the fire have secured these areas, allowing resources to be strategically reassigned to other parts of the fire.
An infrared (IR) flight conducted on Tuesday mapped the fire at 3,651 acres, showing slight growth from the previous day when conditions pushed the fire in three significant areas. Firefighters have been focusing on building containment lines in these areas and will continue their efforts today. Currently, 80% of the fire has containment lines built around it, and as these boundaries are reinforced, overall containment is expected to rise.
For Wednesday’s day shift, 555 personnel are assigned to the fire, including twenty 20-person crews, 21 engines, 12 bulldozers, and 13 water tenders. Additionally, a Rogue Valley Task Force, composed of local resources, is available if needed.
Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits, with windy conditions anticipated in the afternoon. Increased fire activity is projected during this time, and firefighters will be vigilant for spot fires and potential breaches of established containment lines. Structural firefighters remain focused on protecting nearby homes, which have been placed in Level 1, “BE READY,” evacuation zones by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management. Extreme fire danger remains in effect; the public is urged to follow all current fire restrictions to prevent further fires.
