White City, Oregon- Jackson County Fire District 3 recently integrated advanced drone technology into their operations, enhancing their ability to assess emergencies and conduct search and rescue missions. The addition of a rooftop-mounted box on Battalion Chief’s truck (BC3) now houses a tethered drone manufactured by Fotokite, a Swiss and US-based company.
The Fotokite drone offers streamlined operation, allowing the incident commander to launch, fly, and land it with the push of a single button. This eliminates the need for manual piloting or additional personnel, maximizing efficiency during critical situations.
With its dual low-light and infrared cameras, the drone provides live video feed wirelessly no transmitted to handheld devices. This aerial perspective offers incident commanders and command staff a comprehensive view of unfolding situations, aiding in decision-making and planning processes.
The tethered design ensures unlimited power and flight time for the drone while freeing up personnel for other essential tasks. This real-time monitoring capability enables the identification of heat spots, such as fire hotspots or body heat during rescue missions, day or night, directly from above the incident command station.
The implementation of Fotokite drones has already proven effective in several real-life incidents, receiving positive feedback and yielding tangible results. This innovative technology marks a significant advancement in Jackson County Fire District 3’s emergency response capabilities, furthering their commitment to public safety.
