Downtown Medford Association Organizes “Reimagine Downtown” Tour

Medford, Oregon- In a recent exploration of potential spaces for growth, the Downtown Medford Association’s Reimagine Downtown Tour brought together a diverse group of individuals to envision the districts vibrant future. The tour, organized by the Economic Vitality committee and inspired by the 2022 DMA Board retreat, aimed to showcase available spaces and foster community engagement in downtown revitalization.

The journey started at the Sparta Building, where participants toured beautifully remodeled upstairs space with bright white walls and hardwood floors. As the group traversed through various locations, including the former Lawrence’s Jewelry building, One West Main, Artistic Piano, Downtown Market’s Vinyl Room, The Children’s Museum of Southern Oregon, and the Holly Theatre, excitement filled the air. Comments praising the high ceilings, ample light, and the potential for quality, fashionable clothing and footwear echoed through the spaces.

A highlight of the tour was the visit to The Genesis at 8th and Holly, providing a glimpse into the construction site of a 62-unit workforce apartment complex. Laz Ayala’s ambitious project showcased the ongoing commitment to downtown development.

The Reimagine Downtown Tour Committee, comprising three DMA Board members and key city employees from Medford Urban Renewal (MURA) and the City Building Safety Department, played a pivotal role. Their passion and expertise underscored the commitment to realizing the city council’s vision for 2023–2025 – aligning infrastructure investments to revitalize downtown and enhance economic development.

The group, carefully curated to include developers, elected officials, building owners, community members, and downtown business owners, engaged in an analysis. This on-the-ground assessment connected visions and insights to an action plan supporting a vibrant downtown with a diverse business and tenant mix.

As the tour concluded at The Gypsy Blues Bar, participants not only shared their thoughts but also learned about the resources accessed by the business in their move to 111 South Grape Street. Refreshments flowed, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.

Looking forward, DMA plans to evaluate the tour’s impact and consider future events that showcase available spaces in downtown Medford. Participants have been invited to share their insights through a survey, covering overall impressions, suggestions for future tours, preferred business types, and priorities for the downtown area.
