

Rogue River, Oregon- In a joint operation, the Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force (PNVOTF), led by the United States Marshals Service, successfully apprehended a wanted man on a felony charge of child sex abuse in Oregon.
The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Ben J Baxter from Kansas, had an outstanding warrant for sodomy with a child under 14 years of age.
The arrest unfolded today at 2:33 p.m. when PNVOTF, in collaboration with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), traced Baxter to a remote residence on Murphy Gulch Road, west of Wimer, Ore. Despite attempts to avoid detection, including the use of aluminum foil to shield multiple phones, Baxter was arrested without incident.
The felony charge against Baxter stems from a crime that occurred between June 27th and July 1st of this year. Currently, he is lodged in the Jackson County Jail, awaiting extradition back to Kansas.
Over the past few days, PNVOTF tracked Baxter’s movements from Josephine County to the final arrest location. The task force received valuable support from various law enforcement agencies, including the Oregon State Police, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Grants Pass Police Department, and Rogue River Police Department.
PNVOTF, comprising personnel from the U.S. Marshals, JCSO, and Central Point Police Department, specializes in locating and apprehending fugitives involved in offenses such as murder, assault, sex crimes, failure to register as a sex offender, firearm violations, and probation violations.
Authorities have not released any further information at this time.
