Medford School District Releases Statement Regarding Shooting Near NMHS

The Medford School District has released the following information regarding a shooting that took place near a district high school earlier this morning:

Medford Police have advised us of police activity in the areas of North [High School], Kennedy, and Abraham Lincoln schools.

Our staff, with the help of police, immediately secured students at all three schools through our SECURE protocol, which includes moving children indoors and out of hallways, locking outside doors, and going about business as usual.

At this time, we do not believe there is an immediate threat to our students. In all similar situations, we ask that you not pick up your child from school to keep all roads around the school open for police and first responders if that need should arise.

1:00p Update from the Medford School District:

Medford Police continue to look for a suspect in East Medford. Out of an abundance of caution, North Medford High School, Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, and Kennedy Elementary School will remain on secure throughout the remainder of the school day.

The current plan is for a regular release time, and buses will run as scheduled.

MPD will have a presence, but if you have a student who lives in the area between North, Kennedy, and Abraham Lincoln and walks home from school, please consider picking them up in the school’s front office at the end of the school day.

Medford Alert will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
