Dog Attack Claims Life of Six-Year-Old Boy in Portland

Portland, Oregon – Earlier this morning of December 5, 2023, officers responded to reports of a dog attack at a residence in the 1800 block of Northeast 112th Avenue in Portland.

At 7:38 a.m., authorities were dispatched to the scene where a pair of dogs, identified as Great Dane-Mastiff mixes, had mauled a six-year-old boy and an adult female attempting to intervene. Tragically, the young boy was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman, identified as the owner of the dogs, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Further investigation revealed that the deceased child was the grandson of a friend of the dog owner. The circumstances leading to the attack are under investigation as authorities work to understand the sequence of events that resulted in this heart-wrenching incident.

In response to the immediate threat, the dogs involved have been placed in the custody of Multnomah County Animal Services.
