Dense Fog Advisory Issued for Greater Medford Area

Medford, Oregon – A Dense Fog Advisory is currently in effect until 9 AM Wednesday for the Rogue Valley, posing challenges to commuters on Interstate 5 and in the cities of Medford, Jacksonville, Talent, Phoenix, Ashland, and Eagle Point.

The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, warns of visibility dropping to less than a quarter of a mile in dense fog. Motorists are likely to encounter hazardous driving conditions during this period, emphasizing the importance of caution on the roads.

To ensure safety, drivers are urged to slow down and maintain ample distance between vehicles.

Fog, notorious for distorting perception, can make objects appear farther away than they actually are. To mitigate this effect, motorists are advised to use low beams instead of high beams. High beams reflect back in thick fog, worsening visibility for both the driver and others on the road.

Staying prepared is key during such weather conditions. Keeping headlights clean ensures optimal visibility, enhancing readiness for low-visibility scenarios. Additionally, drivers are reminded to refrain from using cruise control, as most weather-related crashes occur when drivers are traveling at speeds unsuitable for current weather conditions.

With the Dense Fog Advisory in place, adhering to these precautions will contribute to safer travels for all motorists in the region.
