Paving efforts along a stretch of Foothill Road, spanning from Hillcrest Road to East McAndrews Road, have experienced delays due to unforeseen mechanical failures at the asphalt plant. As a result, the closure of this section of roadway will continue, with a tentative reopening scheduled for December 2023.
This setback is part of the comprehensive $62 million Foothill Road “Mega-Corridor” project currently underway, a transformation made possible by a $15 million Federal Build Grant received by the city of Medford. The ambitious initiative aims to enhance Foothill Road from Delta Waters Road south to Hillcrest Road.
Despite the temporary setback, the long-term vision for Foothill Road is promising. Upon completion at the end of 2026, the existing two-lane road will be upgraded to feature two lanes in each direction, with the addition of turn lanes. Pedestrians and cyclists can also anticipate safer journeys with the incorporation of sidewalks and bike lanes. Street lighting will further augment safety and visibility along the expanded roadway.
As construction progresses, commuters are urged to explore alternative routes and plan for additional travel time. The collaborative effort between Medford and the Federal Build Grant ensures that Foothill Road will emerge as a modern, well-equipped thoroughfare, catering to the evolving needs of the community.
Medford Alert will continue to provide updates throughout the build schedule.
