MEDFORD, Ore. (Oct. 29, 2026) — Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire Thursday afternoon at a multifamily apartment complex near downtown Medford, where two units were fully involved and flames had spread into the building’s attic.
The fire was reported in the 800 block of East Ninth Street on Oct. 29, prompting a response from multiple fire crews and emergency personnel.
According to an update issued at approximately 2:30 p.m., arriving firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions involving two apartment units, with flames extending into the attic space.
The incident was upgraded to a second alarm because of the volume of fire and the type of occupancy, bringing additional firefighting resources to the scene.
Firefighters knocked down the flames and began overhaul operations, which involve searching for and extinguishing remaining hot spots to prevent the fire from reigniting.
No injuries have been reported.
Three animals were rescued from the fire and were being evaluated. Officials were still working to determine how many residents had been displaced.
Jackson County Fire District 3 assisted with the response, along with Mercy Flights. Medford police provided traffic control as emergency crews operated in the area.
The American Red Cross was also assisting those affected by the fire.
A fire marshal was on scene investigating the cause of the blaze, which had not been determined as of Thursday afternoon.
Fire officials said crews were expected to remain at the apartment complex for an extended period as they continued overhaul operations and assessed the damage.
