Highway 238 Crash Claims Life of Jacksonville Man

On Friday, November 17, 2023, at 3:15 p.m., the Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 238, near milepost 25, resulting in the death of one individual.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound Ford Aspire, driven by Seaven James Wyatt (79) of Jacksonville, made a left turn onto Upper Applegate Road, crossing into the path of an eastbound Toyota Tacoma operated by Ramon Rios Duran (70) of Medford. The collision, a side-impact incident, unfolded with devastating consequences.

The operator of the Ford, Mr. Seaven James Wyatt, was declared deceased after transport. The operator of the Toyota, Mr. Ramon Rios Duran, reportedly suffered minor injuries.

The incident resulted in a significant impact on highway operations, causing a closure for approximately 2.5 hours during the on-scene investigation. Oregon State Police, in collaboration with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Applegate Valley Fire, Mercy Flights, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), worked to manage the situation and facilitate the investigation.

Authorities continue their efforts to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
