North and South Medford to Meet in 41st Black and Blue Bowl

MEDFORD, Ore. (Oct. 19, 2026) — North Medford and South Medford high schools will renew their football rivalry Oct. 30 at Spiegelberg Stadium for the 41st annual Black and Blue Bowl, with the series tied at 20 wins apiece.

South Medford will host this year’s matchup, which will determine which school takes the lead in the longstanding rivalry and claims the Black and Blue Board Trophy.

The annual game brings together student-athletes, families, alumni, school staff and fans for one of the most anticipated high school football events in the Rogue Valley. Fans are encouraged to wear red to support North Medford and blue to support South Medford.

“Medford, Oregon is a very tight-knit community! This is never more evident than Friday Night Lights when it is North versus South,” North Medford High School Principal Allen Barber said. “We’re excited for everyone to see the passion and dedication of our players and coaches in action.”

South Medford High School Principal Jon Lyons also highlighted the significance of the annual contest.

“This game is special for both schools,” Lyons said. “I am so proud of our coaches, the team, and the student section who represent Panther Pride. Can’t wait for Kickoff!”

This year’s game was selected as part of the Great American Rivalry Series, which recognizes high school football rivalries across the country.

As part of the selection, one senior football letterman from each school with the highest academic standing will receive a Rivalry Series Student-Athlete Scholarship. Following the game, organizers will present the Rivalry Series Championship Trophy and the Most Valuable Player Trophy.

Festivities will begin before kickoff, with a tailgate, cornhole tournament and Battle of the Bands planned ahead of the 7 p.m. game.

Sherm’s Tailgate will run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., offering hot dogs, soda, chips, coffee and ice cream for $5 per person. A “Know Your Role” cornhole tournament is scheduled for 5 to 6 p.m., followed by the Battle of the Bands from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m.

Stadium gates are scheduled to open at 5:30 p.m.
