U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, along with U.S. Representative Val Hoyle, have jointly announced the allocation of nearly $2.7 million in federal funds for cities, counties, and Tribes in Oregon. These funds are intended to support road improvement and transportation safety initiatives in the state.
Senator Wyden expressed his commitment to enhancing road safety, stating, “This is exactly the type of investment I fought for in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law because it will directly save Oregonians’ lives on our state’s busiest roadways.”
Senator Merkley emphasized the importance of safe streets for all Oregonians, saying, “These investments will transform Oregon’s roadways into safer places for bicyclists, pedestrians, and drivers.”
Congresswoman Val Hoyle also praised the proactive measures taken by various communities. She noted that these initiatives not only safeguard residents but also promote equitable access and mobility for all.
The $2.65 million in federal funds is sourced from the federal Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All Planning Grant program through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The funds will be distributed to various recipients, including the City of Medford, which will receive $400,000 to enhance transportation safety in our area.
Medford Mayor Randy Sparacino expressed enthusiasm about this opportunity. “This award provides an exciting opportunity to enhance transportation safety throughout Medford,” said Mayor Sparacino. “Federal funds will help us develop a comprehensive action plan and strategy for tackling our top safety needs with transportation solutions that will ultimately save lives and prevent injuries for all users of our roadways.”
