Fire Damages Lower Garage of Home in the East Medford Hills

At approximately 4:19 PM today, ESCO 911 operators received a call reporting smoke billowing from a home’s lower garage on Tamarack Drive, located in the 4300 block of an upscale east Medford hills neighborhood.

In response to the emergency, ten units from the Medford Fire Department (MFD) were originally dispatched to the scene. The situation escalated as the first two MFD engines arrived, encountering heavy black smoke pouring out from the open garage door and side windows of the lower garage.

Adding to the emergency response, Medford Police responded and secured the area by blocking off traffic along Tamarack Drive, allowing firefighters to work unimpeded. Firefighters sprawled hoses and equipment across the street during the firefight.

Approximately a dozen firefighters worked on scene to extinguish the fire, displaying. Crews continued their efforts, tackling mop-up operations and hunting down lingering hot spots, well into the evening, until around 7:00 PM.

Authorities reported that there were no injuries in this incident.

Currently, MFD is conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Notably, the lower garage, which bore the brunt of the fire, held several pieces of woodworking machinery that were severely damaged, and firefighters had to clear them to access remaining hot spots.
