

A domestic violence suspect lost his life after a head-on collision with a responding fire truck on Dead Indian Memorial Road, just outside of Ashland. The domestic violence victim, who was involved in the altercation, sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to the call at approximately 4:39 a.m. The incident unfolded in the 8000 block of Dead Indian Memorial Road, situated in the rural outskirts of Ashland. The initial 911 call was made during a house party at the location, reporting a disturbance that escalated to gunshots.
Witnesses at the scene stated that they heard a heated argument followed by gunfire. Following the altercation, both the suspect and victim left the residence in a vehicle, speeding towards Ashland.


Authorities say the suspect’s vehicle veered out of its lane on Dead Indian Memorial Road, near mile marker two, resulting in a head-on collision with a Jackson County Fire District 5 (JCFD5) fire truck that was responding to the emergency. The impact of the collision was fatal for the suspect, who was extricated from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Emergency responders transported the domestic violence victim to a local hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, the firefighters from JCFD5 involved in the collision escaped without injuries.
Following the incident, JCSO detectives have assumed control of the investigation. The identification of the deceased suspect is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
JCSO officials say no additional information is available for release at this time.
