David’s Chair Outdoor Mobility Systems, also known as David’s Chair, has expanded its network of free electric all-terrain Track Chairs with the addition of the City of Gold Beach Visitor Center. This new location marks the seventh place in Oregon where these specialized chairs are permanently stationed, providing enhanced mobility for those facing mobility challenges.
The CEO and Founder of David’s Chair, Steve Furst, expressed enthusiasm about the Gold Beach Visitor Center’s selection, stating, “The Gold Beach Visitor Center is the perfect location with easy beach access and amazing community support. The city of Gold Beach has been amazing to work with. Their enthusiasm to provide this service is inspiring.”
This initiative is a result of a partnership between David’s Chair and Oregon Parks Forever, two non-profit organizations dedicated to offering individuals with mobility impairments the opportunity to explore nature and enjoy the great outdoors. Their joint goal is to establish ten locations along the Oregon Coast where mobility-challenged visitors can access electric all-terrain Track Chairs at no cost.
Visitors with mobility impairments who rely on wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, canes, or crutches can freely use these Track Chairs. These chairs offer a newfound sense of freedom for park visitors facing mobility challenges, enabling them to venture off the pavement and into the natural beauty of the outdoors.
With improved accessibility to trails, lakes, rivers, and beaches, even in demanding conditions like sand, snow, and mud, mobility-impaired visitors can now engage in activities previously beyond their reach. From birdwatching and fishing to leisurely rides along the beach, these all-terrain chairs open up countless possibilities for experiencing the serenity and fresh air of nature.
The existing locations where these Track Chairs are available for free use include Tigard, Seaside, Manzanita, Pacific City, Netarts, Gold Beach, and White City. Newport and Florence locations are set to become operational by the end of October, and Linn County Parks will introduce a chair in early November.
Additionally, two locations, Tigard and White City, offer a “Tow and Go” option, allowing guests to pick up a trailer and chair for use at their chosen location. Linn County’s location will also provide this convenient opportunity.
