Security Officer Arrested After Stabbing Near Oregon BottleDrop Center

In a violent incident that unfolded on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, a security officer found himself on the wrong side of the law when he allegedly stabbed a man in the Hazelwood Neighborhood of Portland. The incident occurred at 8:14 a.m. in the parking lot of a multi-business retail complex located in the 500 block of Northeast 122nd Avenue.

Local authorities responded to a report of a stabbing and dispatched officers from the East Precinct to the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim with injuries. The victim was promptly transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance, where he received medical attention for non-life threatening injuries.

According to information obtained by the Portland Police Bureau, the incident unfolded as a result of a physical altercation involving a security officer employed at a bottle return business within the complex. The altercation took place in the parking lot of a restaurant located in the 12100 block of Northeast Glisan Street. During the confrontation, the security officer allegedly resorted to the use of a knife, inflicting a stab wound upon the other party involved.

The security officer did not flee the scene and cooperated fully with responding law enforcement officers. Subsequently, detectives from the Portland Police Major Crimes Unit took charge of the investigation. Following their inquiry, the suspect was identified as Arturo Troncoso, Jr., a 19-year-old individual. Troncoso was placed under arrest and subsequently booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on a charge of Assault in the Second Degree.

The Portland Police Bureau continues to investigate this incident, at this time, authorities have not released any further information.


A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
