Additional Task Forces Mobilized Amid Red Flag Conditions

With Red Flag Warnings signaling dangerous conditions and heightened fire activity on the Bedrock Fire in Lane County, Oregon, the Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) has taken swift action to combat the escalating blaze. To address the immediate threat, the OSFM has deployed four specialized task forces from Multnomah, Douglas, Polk, and Washington counties.

The urgency of the situation prompted the OSFM to put its Immediate Response plan into action. These task forces, well-versed in tackling wildfires, have been mobilized to provide critical support in assessing homes and safeguarding communities against the advancing flames. The Multnomah County task force was reassigned from the Wiley Fire in Linn County to bolster efforts against the Bedrock Fire.

In anticipation of the challenging weather conditions, task forces were strategically positioned in Lane County on Saturday. The OSFM’s unwavering commitment to aiding local fire agencies and collaborating with the Bedrock Fire management team has been instrumental in coordinating an effective response.

Acknowledging the potential severity of the situation, the OSFM has reached out to California to secure additional strike teams through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC). These supplementary resources are a preemptive measure aimed at ensuring Oregon is equipped to address the heightened fire threat.

Amidst this critical juncture, Oregon State Fire Marshal Mariana Ruiz-Temple emphasized the forthcoming challenges posed by extreme heat, lightning, and red flag conditions. The Bedrock Fire, having ventured beyond the wilderness, now imperils nearby communities. Mariana Ruiz-Temple underscored the commitment of the OSFM to stand alongside local fire service partners, providing unwavering support in the face of adversity.

As of Monday morning, the Bedrock Fire has consumed approximately 19,297 acres and is currently 20 percent contained. To facilitate open communication and information dissemination, a virtual meeting is scheduled for later today.

With evacuation notices ranging from level 2 to level 3 issued by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office for residents in proximity to the fire, Lane County Emergency Management continues to offer essential updates on its website, ensuring residents remain informed and prepared.

Given the heightened wildfire conditions, the OSFM implores both Oregonians and visitors to exercise extreme caution. As a collective responsibility, individuals are urged to adopt a heightened sense of wildfire awareness and adhere to necessary precautions to prevent human-caused fires from igniting.
