Bend Transient Arrested After Assault and Rideshare Vehicle Theft

Sisters, Oregon- In the early hours of May 3rd, 2024, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting an assault and vehicle theft in Sisters, OR. At approximately 2:48 am, authorities were alerted to an incident involving an assault on a rideshare driver, followed by the theft of the vehicle.

According to Deschutes County 911 Dispatch, the suspect, identified as Joshua Buck, had requested a rideshare service from the Deschutes County Stabilization Center to Sisters. Upon arrival near the Sisters Inn and Suites, Buck assaulted the driver, Stanley Collins, and forcefully removed him from the vehicle before fleeing in the stolen ride share vehicle heading west on Highway 20 towards Santiam Pass.

Responding deputies were able to track the stolen vehicle’s movements as it continued along Highway 126 towards Vida, Oregon. Deschutes County 911 Dispatch promptly notified law enforcement agencies along the route.

At approximately 4:00 am, Lane County Sheriff’s Office and Springfield Police Department were dispatched to a multi-vehicle injury crash near Vida, Oregon. Upon arrival, authorities discovered Buck actively trying to steal another vehicle from the crash scene. The attempted theft was stopped when the driver of the second vehicle accelerated away, striking Buck in the process.

Investigation revealed that Buck had crashed the initially stolen vehicle and was in the process of hijacking another vehicle to continue his escape.

Subsequently, Joshua Davis Buck, a 21-year-old transient from Bend, was arrested at the scene and transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment for his injuries sustained during the incident. Following medical clearance, Buck was taken into custody and transported to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Adult Jail.

The victim, Stanley Eugene Collins, a 77-year-old male from Redmond, was treated for injuries sustained during the assault.

Authorities say that the investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
