Grass Fire Contained Near Phoenix After Helicopters Quickly Respond

A grass fire that broke out on the 3000 block of Deer Trail Lane near Phoenix was swiftly contained thanks to the combined efforts of Medford Fire, Jackson County Fire District 5 (JCFD5), and the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF). The incident occurred at approximately 1:21 p.m., and smoke could be seen from the south Medford area.

Upon receiving the report, Medford Fire, JCFD5, and ODF wasted no time in dispatching their resources to tackle the blaze. Two helicopters equipped with water buckets were immediately launched by ODF to combat the flames from the air, estimated to be between 3 to 5 feet high. Initially covering around 1/4 acre, the fire quickly spread through dry vegetation.

Thanks to the coordinated firefighting efforts, the blaze was successfully halted at 1 acre, preventing further spread. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and no structures were harmed during the incident. Consequently, no evacuations were necessary.

ODF has initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire, as it remains unknown at this time. Multiple firefighters will remain at the scene throughout the afternoon to carry out mop-up and overhaul duties, ensuring that all potential hotspots are thoroughly extinguished and the area is safe.

With the situation under control, all aircraft have been released from the scene. The prompt response and collaborative efforts of agencies played a vital role in swiftly containing the grass fire, minimizing the potential for further destruction.
