Fireworks Rules Guide for Jackson County Cities

Here is a list of metro cities and the regulations and rules regarding fireworks within their city limits.

MEDFORD:

Prohibited Medford Areas: It is illegal within the city limits to discharge any fireworks in the hillside areas, the Bear Creek Greenway, any City park, or any public school.

ASHLAND:

The use of retail fireworks and wire-cored sparklers are prohibited throughout the year within the City of Ashland (Ashland Municipal Code 15.28-070(C). Ashland Fire & Rescue is asking residents to comply with the ordinance in an effort to reduce fires, injuries and the risk to our city’s natural resources.

The use of any spark producing item which causes a fire is always prohibited. You can be held financially responsible for fire damage and the costs of fire suppression caused by negligent use of fireworks.  

There are three items commonly referred to as fireworks, but are considered “unclassified” items that Ashland residents may legally use:

  • Smoke bombs
  • Snakes
  • Party poppers. 

If you choose to use these “unclassified” items , please observe the following safety precautions:

  • Always have an adult present
  • Only use these in a space clear of combustible vegetation
  • Never use these in forested areas
  • Never alter or throw these items
  • Keep matches and these items out of reach of children
  • Place them in a bucket of water after use
  • Keep water nearby

CENTRAL POINT:

The Central Point Police Department states they understand many residents enjoy celebrating the holiday with the use of fireworks. CPPD asks that participants please keep all applicable fireworks laws in mind and read safety information before using fireworks.

PHOENIX:

The sale and use of fireworks inside the city, are fully prohibited.

TALENT:

The sale and use of fireworks inside the city, are fully prohibited.

SHADY COVE:

The sale and use of fireworks inside the city, are fully prohibited.

EAGLE POINT:

Legal Fireworks are allowed within the city limits. Any fireworks deemed “illegal” by definition of the State of Oregon are banned.

JACKSONVILLE:

The sale and use of fireworks inside the city, are fully prohibited.

ROGUE RIVER:

The sale and use of fireworks, is prohibited within the limits of the city of Rogue River.

Oregon Illegal Fireworks: Any type of aerial firework is illegal for citizens to discharge in the state of Oregon. This would include mortars, bottle or sky rockets, and Roman candles or similar devices that shoot flaming balls. According the State statutes, any device that explodes, flies into the air, behaves in an uncontrolled and unpredictable manner, or travels more than 12 feet horizontally is illegal to use in the State of Oregon.

Oregon Illegal Explosives: Explosive devices are illegal to use in the State of Oregon, including firecrackers and M-80’s.

 The following precautions should be practiced to prevent injuries and fires: 

  • Never allow young children to play with fireworks.
  • Always provide close adult supervision to older children.
  • Never have any portion of your body over a firework when lighting.
  • Always keep a bucket of water or hose nearby.
  • Never attempt to reignite a malfunctioning firework.
  • Please leave your pets indoors and away from fireworks.
