Medford School District Celebrates Newest Public Preschool

The Medford School District (MSD) in partnership with Oregon Center for Creative Learning (formerly KidTime) is holding a grand opening for its newest preschool location at Oak Grove Elementary.

The addition of the Ivy School at Oak Grove Elementary means preschool is now available in half of MSD elementary schools.

The newest preschool shows progress toward a key strategy outlined in MSD’s Coherency Plan, to make preschool more accessible to Southern Oregon families.

“We know high quality, developmentally appropriate preschool is one important way to help prepare students for entering kindergarten and being successful in school,” said Superintendent Bret Champion. “Making preschool more readily available for local families helps ensure that our youngest learners are known and challenged, and have the opportunity to achieve their potential. The Ivy School’s play-based, curiosity-driven curriculum is an excellent fit with MSD, where we are striving to ensure learning that is hands-on and minds-on for all of our students.”

The Ivy School serves more than a hundred preschoolers across MSD campuses at low to no cost to families. Some slots are funded in part by the Preschool Promise. The state-funded program provides 900 hours of preschool to children who are 200% of the poverty level and are ages 3-5. Many slots are also paid for by the Medford School District, thanks to the state’s Student Success Act.
