One Hospitalized After Rogue River Boating Accident

At approximately 2:21p on Saturday January 28th, multiple Rural Metro – Josephine County units (RMJC), Grants Pass Fire Department units (GPFD), and one AMR ambulance were dispatched to the 5200 block of Leonard Rd for a water rescue callout.

Witnesses told Medford Alert that a Pavati river boat struck a tree or rock while navigating the Rogue River in the area. The impact caused significant damage to the boat and it immediately began taking on water. Witnesses report that the boat sank very quickly shortly after the impact.

The boat contained two adults and a child. One adult and child were able to make it to shore on their own. That adult and child were checked out by medical personnel on scene, and released without any major injuries.

The second adult was rescued from the Rogue River by nearby individuals, prior to first responders arriving on scene. That individual was transferred to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center by AMR. At this time, their condition is unknown.

Nearby neighbors eventually pulled the damaged boat out of the river. Below are pictures of the damages sent to us from an individual connected with the boat owner.

At this time, the incident is under investigation. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Medford Alert will continue to monitor this incident and provide updates as they become available.
