Early Construction Begins on North Medford High School Gym Rebuild

MEDFORD, Ore. (Apr. 14, 2026) — Early construction is underway on the rebuild of the gymnasium at North Medford High School, marking a significant step in restoring a key space for students, athletics and the broader school community.

The project follows the collapse of the original gymnasium’s roof, after which the Medford School District coordinated with engineers, insurance providers and contractors to plan for the facility’s safe demolition and reconstruction.

During spring break, crews completed removal of the original concrete slab and installed a new gravel base. Stormwater-related work has been approved by the City of Medford, and final construction documents have been submitted for full building permit approval, which is expected by mid-May.

District officials say construction is progressing on schedule. A substantial portion of the new gym’s framework is anticipated to be in place by the start of the next school year, with full completion planned for late fall 2027.

Once finished, the new gymnasium is expected to restore a central gathering place on campus, supporting athletics, physical education classes, assemblies and other school events long associated with the North Medford community.

“On behalf of the North Medford staff and students, I would like to recognize the tremendous support received from The Black Tornado Club, The West Family Foundation, multiple business partners, and the greater Medford community, who have dedicated so much to the gym rebuild,” said North Medford High School Principal Allen Barber. “We are excited for the future and can’t wait to dedicate this new facility to the Black Tornado Family.”
