
CENTRAL POINT, Ore. (Aug. 19, 2026)— Jackson County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the death of a 2-year-old child who was found deceased Wednesday morning after deputies were called to search for the missing child in rural Central Point.
At about 4:30 a.m., dispatchers received a report of a missing child in the 9900 block of Blackwell Road. Jackson County sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers responded to the area and immediately began searching for the child.
The child was located deceased at about 5:41 a.m., according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives with the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Detectives with the Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit, or MADIU, also responded to assist with the investigation.
MADIU is a multi-agency investigative unit made up of detectives from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Medford Police Department, Central Point Police Department, Ashland Police Department and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation remains open and ongoing, with detectives following additional leads.
Authorities said no further information was available for release at this time.
