Roseburg Father Charged in Murder of Infant Son Found in River

ROSEBURG, Ore. (Mar. 16, 2026) — A Roseburg man has been charged with murder after authorities say he admitted to killing his 11-month-old son and disposing of the child’s body in a river in southern Oregon.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said 27-year-old Jared Scott Jeremy Stoller called 911 shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday to report that his son, Jackson James Stoller, was missing from their hotel room at the Relax Inn.

Officers from the Sutherlin Police Department responded and determined there were suspicious circumstances surrounding the report. Authorities activated the Douglas County Major Crimes Team to assist with the investigation.

According to the sheriff’s office, Stoller was interviewed by detectives and eventually confessed that he had killed his son several days earlier at a location in Roseburg. Investigators said Stoller told them he disposed of the child’s body in the South Umpqua River.

Divers from the sheriff’s office dive team, assisted by boats from the Oregon State Police and Douglas County authorities, located the child’s body shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday in the river near the 3500 block of Old Melrose Road.

Jackson’s body was turned over to the Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office. Authorities said an autopsy is expected to take place in the coming days.

Detectives arrested Stoller and lodged him in the Douglas County Jail on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree abuse of a corpse.

The major crimes team — made up of investigators from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Roseburg Police Department and the Oregon State Police working with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office — continues to investigate the case.

Additional assistance in the search and investigation came from Douglas County Search and Rescue, the Winston Police Department, the Myrtle Creek Police Department and the Oregon Department of Human Services – Child Welfare Division.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional details are expected to be released at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 541-440-4471 and reference case number 26-0836.
