Medford Seeks Artists for Downtown Mural Project Themed ‘Connection’

MEDFORD, Ore. (Feb. 9, 2026) — The Medford Public Arts Selection Committee is inviting artists and artist teams based in Jackson and Josephine counties to submit proposals for a new public mural installation in downtown Medford.

The project will feature four 4-by-16-foot panels — totaling 256 square feet — to be installed along the Bartlett-Middleford garage connection between Middleford Alley and East Sixth Street at 34 N. Bartlett St. The designated theme for the mural is “Connection,” and special consideration will be given to collaborative artist teams.

Artists may complete the panels either on-site or off-site. If completed off-site, artists will be responsible for acquiring the panels, delivering the finished work to the site and being available for touch-ups after installation. The city will contract separately for installation.

Artists from diverse backgrounds and communities are encouraged to apply. Youth artist teams may also submit proposals, provided at least one member is 18 or older and eligible to sign a contract with the city.

The deadline to submit proposals is just before midnight Sunday, April 12, 2026. Applications must be sent electronically to kim.trimiew@cityofmedford.org.

Selected artists will be notified by May 8, 2026, with final designs due June 8. The mural installation must be completed no later than Sept. 18, 2026.

An all-inclusive award of $10,000 is available for the project. The funding covers artist fees, insurance, materials, medium-density panels, equipment, transportation, anti-graffiti coating and other associated costs. Installation onto the brick wall will be handled by the city.

The Medford Public Arts Selection Committee, formerly the Medford Arts Commission, was formed in 2000 to advance the city’s vision for civic vibrancy through arts and culture and oversees public art acquisition and selection.

Proposals will be evaluated based on artistic quality and originality, relevance to the theme “Connection,” inclusivity, feasibility, design durability and maintenance considerations. Additional points will be awarded for collaborative artist teams.

Applicants must submit digital renderings, an artist statement and project description, a detailed budget, production timeline, professional references and images of previous work. Selected artists will be required to enter into a contract with the city, hold a valid Medford business license and meet insurance requirements.

The committee said the goal of the project is to cultivate a thriving public art presence in downtown Medford.
