Driver Arrested on Meth Warrant After Eluding Deputies in Josephine County

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. (Feb. 3, 2026) — A 33-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday after deputies say he attempted to flee a traffic stop and was found to have a felony warrant related to methamphetamine distribution.

Deputies with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a red GMC Sonoma pickup near the intersection of Highway 199 and Lone Mountain Road at about 3:29 a.m. Tuesday because the vehicle was not displaying a front license plate and the rear plate was partially obscured, according to authorities.

The driver, identified as Gavin Moore, was found to have a felony warrant for distribution of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. Deputies said when Moore was told he was under arrest and instructed to turn off the truck, he sped away and attempted to elude deputies on Lone Mountain Road.

Moore continued onto gravel roads, where his vehicle slid off the roadway, authorities said. He initially put his hands out of the windows but then backed toward deputy vehicles until his truck slid sideways and became stuck in a ditch.

Moore later complied with commands and was taken into custody without further incident, deputies said.

He was lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges of attempting to elude police, reckless driving and on his outstanding warrant for distribution of a controlled substance.
