PORTLAND, Ore. (Jan. 30, 2026) — A Portland resident pleaded guilty this week to damaging government property after targeting surveillance cameras and setting debris on fire outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement building, federal prosecutors said.
Alistair Macfarlane Sidener, 20, admitted to one count of depredation of government property in U.S. District Court.
According to court documents, Sidener damaged several cameras mounted on the facility on June 12, 2025, by shooting paint at them with a water gun and striking others with a long metal pole. Shortly afterward, authorities said Sidener set fire to debris that had been placed against a metal gate.
Sidener was charged by superseding information on Jan. 28, 2026.
He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and up to three years of supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for May 27, 2026, before a U.S. District Court judge.
As part of the plea agreement, Sidener agreed to pay full restitution.
The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.
