

PORTLAND, Ore. (Jan. 20, 2026) — Two Portland police officers were hospitalized and treated after being shot by a suspect Monday night, and tactical teams were continuing an active search early Tuesday morning as authorities released photos of the suspect (pictured above).
Portland Police Bureau officers assigned to the North Precinct responded around 8:21 p.m. Monday to a report of a threat involving a weapon near Northeast 21st Avenue and Northeast Clackamas Street. Officers located the suspect on Northeast Clackamas Street between Northeast 16th and Northeast 17th avenues, police said.
The suspect opened fire, striking two officers. Both were transported by ambulance to a hospital, treated and are in stable condition, police said.
The suspect fled on foot, prompting officers to establish a perimeter around the area. The bureau’s Special Emergency Reaction Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Air Support Unit, Unmanned Aircraft Systems Unit, K9 teams and other resources were deployed to assist in the search.
Police described the suspect as a white male in his mid-30s with facial hair, wearing a black baseball cap, black jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes. He was also seen carrying a black backpack and a green shopping bag and is believed to be armed with both a knife and a handgun.
Authorities urged anyone with information about the suspect’s identity or whereabouts to call 911, warning that he should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
The Portland Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.

The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) provided the following update:
“The initial search for the individual who shot two PPB officers in the Sullivan’s Gulch Neighborhood has concluded. The suspect was not located. However, this remains an active investigation, and detectives are continuing to gather information and follow leads.”
All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
