Teen Sisters Involved in Fatal Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash in Albany

ALBANY, Ore. (Jan. 18, 2026) — Police in Albany are investigating a fatal vehicle-pedestrian crash that killed a 16-year-old girl Saturday night, authorities said.

Officers were called at about 10:08 p.m. to SE 19th Avenue near SE Tudor Way, where the juvenile female had been struck by a vehicle. She was transported by Albany Fire Department crews to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, where she later died despite lifesaving efforts, police said.

Investigators said the driver was the victims 18-year-old sister, who was driving a white 2005 Nissan Altima. She was located nearby and cooperated with police. Authorities said impairment does not appear to be a factor.

According to investigators, the victim and another sibling were pushing a rolling tool chest in the roadway when the vehicle struck the toolbox and the juvenile female. Police said the driver was following her sisters at a slow, walking speed at the time of the collision. The vehicle has been seized under a search warrant for further analysis.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy for this family and our community, and our hearts go out to everyone affected,” police said in a statement. “We ask for patience and support for the family, friends and first responders as we work to understand the circumstances.”

The victim attended Albany Options School, where officials described her as an outstanding student. Greater Albany Public Schools said counselors and support teams will be available when students return next week.

The investigation remains ongoing, authorities stated.
