Grants Pass Man Caught Eating Inside Burglarized Restaurant

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Dec. 10, 2025) — Grants Pass police arrested a 30-year-old man Tuesday evening after officers responding to a burglary alarm found him inside a closed downtown restaurant, where investigators say he had helped himself to food.

Officers were dispatched around 6:26 p.m. to the Depot Eatery after an alarm was triggered, according to the Grants Pass Police Department. When officers arrived, they heard the alarm sounding and found a glass door at the main entrance shattered.

Inside, police located the suspect, identified as Micheal James Sherer of Grants Pass. He was taken into custody without incident. Investigators said Sherer had consumed multiple food items while inside the business, which was closed at the time.

Sherer was booked into the Josephine County Jail on charges of second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and third-degree theft. Officers said K9 Maro assisted during the investigation.

“We appreciate the continued support from our community as we work to protect local businesses and keep Grants Pass safe,” the department said in a statement.

All suspects believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
