MEDFORD, Ore. (Nov. 20, 2025) — Medford police arrested a juvenile male Thursday after an armed carjacking in north Medford led to a rapid search involving officers, mall security and local businesses, authorities said.
The carjacking was reported at 11:33 a.m. in the 700 block of North Riverside Avenue, where police say the suspect approached a woman with a handgun and ordered her out of her vehicle. She was not injured and the suspect fled in the stolen car.
Officers found the vehicle abandoned about seven minutes later near Riverside Avenue and McAndrews Road. Police issued an immediate suspect description, established a perimeter and searched nearby areas, including the Rogue Valley Mall, after alerting mall security.
Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage showing the suspect entering Target, where police say he discarded evidence. Officers recovered the firearm and additional items inside the store. An image of the suspect taken from surveillance video was shared with units in the field.
Shortly afterward, officers spotted the juvenile walking east on McAndrews Road near Royal Avenue and arrested him without incident.
Detectives interviewed the suspect with assistance from the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office. He was lodged in the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of first-degree robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Medford police thanked the district attorney’s office, Rogue Valley Mall security, Target and nearby businesses for their cooperation. The investigation remains ongoing.
