GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Nov. 21, 2025) — A 39-year-old Merlin man was arrested early Thursday after police say he broke into a Grants Pass home while naked, stole a blanket and fled before being found hiding nearby.
Grants Pass police said they were called at about 2:38 a.m. to the 200 block of West Park Street after a resident reported that an unknown, unclothed man in his 40s had smashed a window and was crawling into the home. The victim told dispatchers the suspect had tattoos and was shouting “crazy stuff about saving them from Hermes and goddesses.”
Officers arrived to find the man had already fled, leaving the adult victim and two children unharmed, authorities said. The suspect appeared to have injured himself on the broken window during the break-in and left with a stolen blanket.
A search of the area with K9 partner Maro led officers to the suspect, who was hiding in a hedge in a neighboring yard, police said. The man, who initially refused to identify himself, surrendered and was taken into custody.
He was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center for treatment of a wound before officers identified him as Patrick Hermes, 39, of Merlin. After being medically cleared, Hermes was booked into the Josephine County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary, third-degree theft, harassment, and on a felony parole violation warrant, according to police.
All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
