MEDFORD, Ore. (Nov 7, 2025) — Fast food chain Wendy’s plans to close hundreds more restaurants nationwide just a year after shuttering 140 locations, the company announced today.
Interim CEO Ken Cook told investors during a Nov. 7 quarterly earnings call that the company would be closing a “mid single-digit percentage” of its roughly 6,000 U.S. restaurants — a move that could affect between 240 and 360 locations. One investor on the call estimated the number at around 300 stores.
“When we look at the system today, we have some restaurants that do not elevate the brand and are a drag from a franchisee financial performance perspective,” Cook said. “The goal is to address and fix those restaurants.”
Cook said in some cases, struggling locations could be improved with upgrades to technology or equipment, or transferred to new operators. In other cases, the company plans to close the restaurants altogether. The closures are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
The company has faced softening sales compared to some of its competitors, reporting a 4.7% drop in same-store sales — revenue from restaurants open at least a year — and a 2.6% decrease in global systemwide sales during the third quarter.
In southern Oregon, Wendy’s currently operates two restaurants in Medford, one in Ashland, one in Grants Pass, and one in Klamath Falls. The company previously operated locations at the Rogue Valley Mall and on South Riverside Avenue in Medford, both of which closed several years ago.
Wendy’s has not released a list of affected locations at the time of this article’s publication.
