MEDFORD, Ore. (Nov 7, 2025) — Baseball fans can expect a refreshed playing surface when the Medford Rogues take the field next spring at Harry and David Field.
Crews have been busy this offseason replacing the ballpark’s natural grass with a Bermuda grass variety known as Tahoma 31, a turf prized for its drought resistance, low water and mowing needs, and quick recovery from wear and tear.
The same grass is used at several major venues across the country, including Dodger Stadium, Angel Stadium and the Los Angeles Coliseum.
The resurfacing is part of the city of Medford’s biennial budget and its ongoing turf replacement plan for LITHIA & Driveway Fields. The Rogues, a collegiate summer baseball team, have called Harry and David Field home since their founding in 2012.
“It is going to be incredible for our athletes to play not only on one of the best field surfaces in Oregon, but in the entire country,” said Jeff Weiss, the Medford Rogues’ general manager.
The project also benefits from the expertise of Clay Wood, longtime head groundskeeper for the Oakland Athletics, who is consulting with the city. Wood spent more than 30 years with the A’s, overseeing the Oakland Coliseum’s complex seasonal transformations between baseball and football.
Opened in 2005 and renovated in 2012 to accommodate the Rogues, Harry and David Field also hosts the American Legion Medford Mustangs, Medford School District games and numerous community events.
The Rogues are a charter member of the Pacific Empire League, with their 2026 regular season scheduled from May 28 through July 26.
