Jackson County Deputies Arrest Four DUII Suspects During Enforcement

Medford, Oregon- Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies arrested four drivers for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) during a series of incidents Saturday night, Oct. 11, that included two vehicles stuck in ditches, a driver reported by multiple motorists, and a man who was warned by police not to drive shortly before his arrest.

According to the sheriff’s office, the coordinated DUII enforcement effort—supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT)—aims to prevent impaired driving, reduce crashes and keep local roads safe.

The first arrest occurred around 5 p.m. when Eagle Point Police officers responded to a DUII crash at a business in the 11100 block of Highway 62. Officers warned a visibly intoxicated man nearby not to drive, but deputies later spotted him driving down Highway 62 near Linn Road. Deputies stopped the 30-year-old driver, who reportedly resisted arrest and refused field sobriety tests. He was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw under a search warrant and later blew a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.20%—two and a half times the legal limit—at the Jackson County Jail. He faces charges of DUII, resisting arrest, and reckless driving.

Less than an hour later, at 5:45 p.m., Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO 911) received multiple calls about a suspected impaired driver traveling from Klamath Falls along Highway 140. Deputies located the vehicle on Interstate 5 near mile marker 26.5 and stopped the 40-year-old female driver, who showed multiple signs of impairment and was unable to complete field sobriety tests. She was transported to a local hospital for a blood test, arrested for DUII, and cited and released to her husband. Oregon State Police assisted with the stop.

The third arrest came at 1:07 a.m. Sunday after dispatchers received a report of an abandoned vehicle in a ditch in the 2400 block of Finley Lane in Medford. Deputies contacted the 66-year-old registered owner at a nearby residence, where he admitted to drinking before driving. He was arrested for DUII and reckless driving after refusing sobriety tests. Deputies said he provided a 0.08% BAC more than 90 minutes after the initial call.

About an hour later, at 2:09 a.m., deputies responded to another vehicle found high-centered on the shoulder at Gardner Way and Hillcrest Road in Medford. The 30-year-old male driver reportedly showed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. He later recorded a 0.10% BAC and was cited and released for DUII. Medford Police assisted at the scene.

JCSO thanked ECSO dispatchers, its partner agencies, NHTSA and ODOT for their support in DUII enforcement efforts.

“If you see a suspected impaired driver, call 911,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
