Eagle Point Man Arrested After 100+ Mph Chase on OR-62

EPPD

Eagle Point, Oregon- A 33-year-old Eagle Point resident was arrested Sunday after police say he fled from an officer during a high-speed racing incident on Highway 62.

Brenton W. Dewar was booked on charges of attempting to elude a police officer and reckless driving, authorities said. He also received citations for additional traffic violations related to speed racing.

According to the Eagle Point Police Department, an officer conducting speed enforcement along Highway 62 spotted two eastbound vehicles traveling side by side at more than 100 mph near East Dutton Road, where the posted limit is 45 mph. When the officer attempted a stop, one vehicle pulled over, but the other — later identified as Dewar’s — fled.

Police said the officer used in-car camera technology to identify the fleeing vehicle and alerted other units. The car was located near Dewar’s residence, but he allegedly fled again before being stopped by additional officers.

The arrest comes during a monthlong traffic safety campaign focused on speed enforcement. Local agencies, working with the Oregon Department of Transportation Safety Office, are targeting Highway 62 and other high-risk roadways in Jackson County to reduce crashes caused by speeding.

“We urge drivers to be cautious and drive within the listed speed limits to ensure safety for everyone,” the department said in a statement, adding that officers will continue extra patrols throughout September.
