Rogue River, Oregon- Oregon Department of Forestry crews are responding to a wildfire in the 19000-block of East Evans Creek Road north of Rogue River, officials said Monday.
The blaze, called the Lucky Hollow Fire, is estimated at 15 to 20 acres. Firefighters are launching an aggressive initial attack, and no structures are currently threatened. Three 20-person crews, seven engines and three water tenders are on scene, with aircraft also assisting ground resources.
Since Saturday’s lightning storms, ODF has responded to 14 other fires. All have been lined and are either fully mopped up or in the final stages of mop-up. The largest reached three-quarters of an acre.
Officials noted that lightning-caused fires can smolder for days or weeks before flaring under dry conditions. To catch flare-ups early, daily reconnaissance flights will continue, and ODF’s Detection Center staff are monitoring strike areas through fire cameras.
Scattered thunderstorms are forecast through Wednesday. While storms may bring rain, lightning-caused blazes remain a risk. Extreme fire danger is still in effect, and all outdoor burning is prohibited.
ODF urged residents to follow fire regulations and avoid human-caused ignitions while firefighters focus on containing natural starts.
