Extreme Heat Watch Issued for Medford Area as Temperatures Set to Soar Past 100 Degrees

Extreme Heat Watch

Medford, Oregon- The National Weather Service in Medford has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the Rogue Valley region, effective Sunday morning through late Monday night, signaling dangerously high temperatures ahead.

What to Know

Timing: The heat watch runs from Sunday, August 10, into Monday night, August 11.  Forecast Conditions: Daytime highs are expected to range from 100°F to near 110°F, while overnight temperatures will remain uncomfortably warm, hovering between 65°F and 70°F.  Threat: Persistent high heat combined with warm overnight lows increases the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The lack of overnight cooling exacerbates health dangers, especially for vulnerable individuals.

Affected Areas

The watch includes Jackson, Josephine, and eastern parts of Curry County, encompassing communities such as Medford, Ashland, Grants Pass, Talent, and Rogue River.

Expert Advice

The National Weather Service urges residents to:

Stay hydrated—drink water regularly, even if not thirsty. Stay cool—use air conditioning or visit public cooling centers. Limit outdoor exposure, especially between late morning and early evening. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, where temperatures can become lethal in minutes. Check on at-risk neighbors, including the elderly and those with health issues.

This Extreme Heat Watch reflects a heightened level of danger. According to updated weather terminology, such watches are issued when heat index values and overnight temperature retention raise the possibility of life-threatening conditions within the next 24 to 72 hours.

Residents of Medford and surrounding communities should prepare now for this upcoming heat wave. Take proactive steps—stay informed, stay cool, stay hydrated—to reduce the risks posed by these extreme and enduring high temperatures.

Stay tuned to local forecasts for any updates, including potential upgrades to warnings or advisories as conditions evolve.
