Portland, Oregon- The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) made three arrests Saturday following criminal activity that broke out during and after a large-scale peaceful demonstration in South Portland.
Tens of thousands gathered for the march on the afternoon of June 14, which police said was facilitated without incident by numerous PPB resources, including Dialogue Liaison Officers, the Rapid Response Team, Mobile Field Forces, Air Support Unit, and a Sound Truck. An Incident Command Team oversaw the coordinated law enforcement response.
As the demonstration transitioned toward ongoing protests near the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Building in the South Portland Neighborhood, PPB began receiving reports of criminal activity in the area. At 5:49 p.m., police were informed that a federal officer had been injured. Officers issued a warning to the crowd, requesting that they not interfere with police and medics attempting to render aid inside the facility.
Shortly after, citing continued criminal behavior, PPB declared a riot. Authorities later determined that the injured officer did not require medical treatment.
Police reported making their first arrest at 8:11 p.m. Sabian Crisantos, 25, was taken into custody on suspicion of Attempted Assault of a Public Safety Officer.
Throughout the evening, PPB said officers observed further criminal conduct, prompting targeted enforcement actions. Police bike patrols were used to deter crime, though officers at times disengaged to reduce tensions while remaining nearby to respond.
At approximately 10:50 p.m., a second individual, Tyson Kahnert, 20, was arrested after allegedly throwing a rock at the ICE building. Officers reported being pepper sprayed while making the arrest, though no suspects were located and no additional injuries were reported.
A third arrest occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday. Officers stopped a man on Southwest Macadam Boulevard who was seen placing traffic control devices into his truck. The suspect, identified as Cory Oien, 38, was arrested on charges of Theft in the First Degree and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.
The three individuals were booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. Kahnert faces multiple charges, including Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, two counts of Attempted Assault of a Public Safety Officer, two counts of Harassment, Interfering with a Peace Officer, and Escape in the Third Degree.
PPB emphasized that arrests were focused solely on criminal acts and not constitutionally protected free speech. The bureau stated it will continue follow-up investigations, and individuals involved in violence or property damage could face charges even if not arrested at the scene.
The bureau also reiterated that it does not participate in immigration enforcement, as per Directive 810.10, but remains committed to public safety and enforcing state laws.

All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
