Evacuations Issued as Juniper Fire Expands in Siskiyou County

Montague, California– Fire crews are battling the Juniper Fire in northern Siskiyou County after it grew to 50 acres Wednesday afternoon, prompting new evacuation alerts for rural communities near Montague.

As of 4:37 p.m., authorities issued a “Go Now” evacuation order for Zone SIS-5120-A, north of Proteau Road. Residents in that zone are being told to leave immediately due to rapidly changing fire conditions.

A “Be Set” evacuation warning is also in place for Zone SIS-5117-A, located north of County Highway A12, advising residents to prepare to evacuate if conditions worsen.

According to Cal Fire, the fire is burning in brush, grass, and junipers within the Mt. Shasta Vista subdivision, near the Norman Drive area. There is currently 0% containment.

Firefighting efforts include 145 personnel, 10 engines, two helicopters, one air tanker, three bulldozers, and five water tenders. No road closures have been reported at this time, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

9:10p UPDATE: The evacuation order for Zone 5120-A has been downgraded to an evacuation warning, and the evacuation warning for Zone SIS-5117-A has been lifted.


5/31/25 UPDATE: All evacuation notices have been lifted. The fire is currently 75% contained as crews continue mop-up work.
