Medford, Oregon- Sixteen students from North and South Medford High Schools departed for Alba, Italy, on Friday morning to participate in a two-week cultural exchange with Medford’s sister city. The group, accompanied by two chaperones, will stay with the families of Alba students who visited Medford in September 2024.
The exchange program includes visits to Alba’s city hall and schools, a tour of the Ferrero chocolate factory, and trips to historic castles and cathedrals. The students will also have the opportunity to explore Alba’s natural surroundings through organized hikes and other activities.
The Medford-Alba student exchange program began in 1985, and more than 400 students from the Medford area have participated over the years. The sister city relationship was established in 1960 by then-Medford mayor John Snider, who believed that fostering connections between the two communities would create lasting bonds. At the time, both cities had similar populations, climates, and agricultural industries.
The group is scheduled to return to Medford on April 5, continuing a long tradition of cultural exchange and cooperation between the two cities.
