Medford, Oregon- The National Weather Service (NWS) in Medford has issued a hydrologic outlook warning of potential flooding across several counties in southern Oregon and northern California. The affected areas include Siskiyou County in California and Coos, Curry, Douglas, Jackson, and Josephine counties in Oregon.
A series of wet frontal systems is expected to bring significant rainfall starting Wednesday night and continuing through the weekend. The NWS predicts precipitation totals of 2 to 5 inches in west side valleys and 5 to 10 inches in mountainous areas and coastal regions. The Curry County coastal ranges could see rainfall exceeding a foot.
The forecasted rainfall raises concerns about flash flooding, particularly in burn scar areas, and potential flooding of small streams and rivers. Significant rises in river levels are expected, especially from Saturday night into early next week.
The Rogue River near Agness is anticipated to reach minor flood stage by Saturday night and remain at minor flood stage through Sunday morning. The Coquille River at Coquille is forecast to enter action flood stage on Sunday afternoon and reach minor flood stage by Sunday evening.
The NWS emphasizes that while there is potential for flooding, the exact severity remains uncertain. Updates to the forecast will be issued as needed, and the agency may release flood watches or warnings if conditions worsen.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay informed and prepare for possible flooding.
