Air Stagnation Advisory in Effect for Southern Oregon

Medford, Oregon- The National Weather Service (NWS) in Medford has issued an Air Stagnation Advisory for several areas in Southern Oregon. The advisory is in place until 4 p.m. on Saturday due to ongoing poor air quality caused by stagnant air and surface inversions that are trapping pollutants.

Affected Areas

The advisory applies to both west and east of the Cascades.

West of the Cascades: Umpqua, Illinois, Applegate, and Rogue Valleys, Eastern Curry County, Josephine County, Jackson County, and Central Douglas County.

East of the Cascades: Chemult, Silver Lake, Paisley, and surrounding areas in eastern Klamath County and Lake County.

Health Impacts

The poor air quality poses risks, particularly for individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions. The stagnant air increases pollution levels, which may aggravate respiratory illnesses or lead to discomfort for vulnerable populations.

Precautionary Measures

The NWS advises individuals with respiratory conditions to follow their physicians’ recommendations during this advisory. Those in affected areas should consider reducing outdoor activities and limiting prolonged exposure to polluted air.

Outlook

The advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve, which is expected after 4 p.m. on Saturday. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates and follow guidelines provided by local authorities.
