Kerby, Oregon – Multiple firefighting units responded to a fire in Kerby earlier today, which started as a reported structure fire but quickly spread to a two-acre grass fire. The Illinois Valley Fire District, AMR-Josephine County, and ODF Southwest Oregon District were initially dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the situation escalated, prompting a second alarm activation. The fire, fueled by multiple connex boxes, a recreational vehicle, and various items on the ground, spread to neighboring properties.
To contain the fire, additional units from Rural Metro Fire – Josephine County and Grants Pass Fire were called in to assist. The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) also deployed two helicopters, a bulldozer, and hand crews to support the firefighting efforts.
The fire has since been extinguished, and crews are currently engaged in mop-up operations. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
